MAXINE ANDERSON

ABOUT ME

Editor for hire; translator and poet on my own time.

EDUCATION

Certificate in Publishing, NYU.
M.A. in Latin American and Caribbean Studies, CUNY Graduate Center.
Graduate coursework in Comparative Literature, University of Oregon.

WHY SHOULD YOU HIRE ME?

I have edited press releases, personal essays, fiction, resumes and cover letters,
and academic work of all flavors on a freelance basis since 2011. I'm always happy
to take on a new challenge, and can provide references from previous clients upon request.

I know AP and Chicago styles and have reading knowledge of French, German, and Spanish.
Also, I have a secret photo album of typos that I've found on published book covers.

EDITORIAL PROJECTS

A few major projects I've worked on:

Jean Rhys' Wide Sargasso Sea: assisted in editing updated Norton annotated edition,
including biographical and historical documents as well as scholarly articles for
inclusion in the edition.

Dissent Magazine: line edited, copy edited, and fact checked articles for print issues
as well as for the web. Evaluated unsolicited submissions for possible publication and
performed developmental edits for accepted articles.

The New Press: edited manuscript chapters in English translation (from French) for novels
and nonfiction; edited cover and flap copy for Alice Walker's The Chicken Chronicles and
Alain Badiou's In Praise of Love; edited press releases and marketing materials.

PUBLICATIONS
